Following the release of his latest graphic novel, not to mention a recent foray into microbrewing, Canadian DJ Kid Koala will put out a new solo album on September 17th via Ninja Tune. 12 Bit Blues is a self-described “blues turntable” record, with Koala (real name Eric San) using a E-mu SP-1200 sampler to record each track over the course of three days.

In describing the project’s aim and origin, San said in a statement, “Being a DJ and a record collector, I started drawing all of these lines backwards from the music I was into as a teenager and was like, ‘Wow, all of this stuff correlates to the blues’ and I got really heavy into it. So much so that I decided to do an actual turntable blues record, whatever that means.”
