Keneon Isaac aka Ruffa was born in Trinidad and Tobago. He started writing at the age of 13. He was a calypso star at the tender age of 13, he won 3 straight Calypso singing titles in Trinidad and Tobago.
Ruffa migrated to the USA with his family. His father attended Berklee School of Music in Boston, MA. There he studied music. Ruffa has been honing his vocal and production skills over the years and that has made him the lyrically potent MC and top shelf producer that he is today.
Ruffa has won three Boston Caribbean awards for best band, record of the year and best new artist of the year. Ruffa’s first major release independently was “Like a Gangsta” which sold 50, 000 copies in one week and became an international smash hit. “Like a Gangsta” the Hip Hop Reggae anthem created a major buzz, which gained the attention of MCA, Sony, Jive and Epic record executives. Hip-Hop Reggae star Ruffa flew out to New York city and met with Hank Shocklee producer extraordinaire for Public Enemy (The Bomb Squad) who signed Ruffa immediately on the spot to MCA and gave him full creative control as executive producer and producer on his first major release “Diamond in the Ruff”, unheard of in the music game, it was an astronomical deal. Ruffa was just 18 years old when he got signed to MCA Records.
